USAQUEN

Usaquén is the locality number one of “Capital de Bogotá” district, Capital of Colombia. It is located to the north of Bogotá city

Its name comes from the “cacique Usaque”. It was a Muisca town in the pre-Hispanic epoch , funded  as an indigenous town in 1539 Usaquén was abandoned in 1777 by a Spanish decree, although it was repopulated later by Capital persons. Years later it will be scenery of the Colombian independence battles. In 1846 reappears as a municipality and in 1860, the battle among the government troops and Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, troops which finally won and take the country control.

To 1991, the antique municipality was named as locality by a constitutional order, nowadays is one of the most important in the city.

Limits

North: Street 240 with Chía municipality (Cundinamarca).
South: Street 100, with Chapinero Locality.
East: Oriental mountain range with La Calera municipality (Cundinamarca).
West: North highway with Suba locality.

Tourist interest places

Colonial Area, comprehend Santa Barbara Parish (built in 1665 and refurbished in the  XX century), the antique estate with the same name (nowadays is a commercial center), seminars, schools and the famous flea market.

- Plaza de Usaquén, the Usaquén square is one of the most important meeting points for the persons who visit the main restaurants in Usaquén area; in the square you will find a micro soccer field and a fountain.
- Flea Market, funded in 1990 by the Usaquén mayor, the flea market represents a small scale market similar to the San Telmo Toldos in Argentina or the Rastro in Madrid.
It takes place every Sunday and is without any doubt an interesting and a must visit in Bogotá city, offers a varied list of attractions, typical gastronomy, hand crafts, artist works, antiques and so much more.
The country club, social and exclusive club for the high class families recognized by its Wide and green golf fields.
Unicentro Commercial Center is one of the biggest of the city with shoppers from all over the city.
Santa Ana Commercial Center, located in the Ninth Avenue, is one of the most exclusive in the city.
Cedritos 151 Commercial Center, located in the Diagonal 151 with carrera 32 (old address).
Palatino Commercial Center located on 140 streets with carrera 7

It is located between 112 street and 116 street and carreras 7 and 9.

How to get there?

There’s urban bus services by the main ways, specially at Carrera 7ª, Ninth avenue, Carrera 19, Carrera 15 avenue and the streets 187, 183, 170, 161, 153, 147, 140, 134, 127, 116 y 100.

With the TransMilenio service there’s just service till the occidental limit stations, at the north highway Hill North Portal station, where is possible to board “alimentadores” busses. The line B comprehend the simple stations of Toberín, Cardio Infantil, Mazurén, 146 street, 142 street , Alcaclá, Prado, 127 street, Pepe Sierra and 106 street.

Close  to the Colonial area, in front of Santa Ana commercial center the Usaquén Train Station, is located the main routes are the Bogotá Sabana municipalities. Other train station in the area but currently out of service is the San Antonio train station on 183 streets.
