Casa Museum Quinta de Bolívar
Its history starts since 1670, when the bachelor Pedro de Solis and Valenzuela donated to the Monserrate hermit 100 varas castellans of land, located in the place called “La Toma de la Aduana”. In 1800, the Monserrate chaplain, José Torres Patiño, sold the land in $120 to the main accountant of the Tobacco Rent of Santa fe, Don José Antonio Portocarrero. The new owner built a countryside quinta that arrange to honor the Viceroy Antonio Amar and Borbón in his wife birthday, Vicereine Doña Francisca Villanova.
After the independence The Quinta was bought by the new independent government as a gift for Simón Bolívar.
What to visit
- Gardens: The gardens surround the House you will find among the important trees a big walnut tree, several lushes, cherry trees, caper bushes, mortiños, pines all without any doubt from Bolívar epoch.
- Manuelita Saloon: Manuela Sanz arrived to the Quinta in 1828, in the days before to the Ocaña convention. She meets Simón Bolívar in Quito in his glory summit among them a profound love begins. Manuelita is well known as the “Libertadora del Libertador” because she saved Simón Bolivar’s life in September 25, 1828.
- The big saloon: Scenery of parties, balls, and gatherings organized to celebrate the victories of the military campaigns and to attract the interest of other nations to consolidate the young republic.
- Dinning room: Situated between two gardens this room has large windows, it presents a ellipse shape, and al fresco paintings along a Bolivar portrait crowned by two genies and around a legend that verse “Bolivar is Colombia God”
- Libertador Bedroom: Bolivar bedroom still has the epoch furniture well preserved, according historic information in 1830 Bolivar look for refuge at La Quinta, seek and disappointed.
- José Palacios bedroom: Bedroom of the most loyal Simon Bolivar servant who accompanied Bolivar since his early childhood years.
- High gardens: Place where you will find a large and antique bath area and the view point of Bolivar.
- Flags square: Wide yard where you will find the flags and national shields of the 5 nations that reach independence thanks to Bolivar.
- Armas Square: In the small square you will find 5 canons of the epoch that were used in the independence campaigns.
