Beaches and Islands in Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena de Indias city is a beauty pearl by its location in Caribbean. The best beaches of Cartagena de Indias are located in Bocagrande, the most important tourist zone of the city.

The beaches of Cartagena are safe for swimming, without high tides. The most frequented ones have security flags for informing when the weather is bad. The red flag means that people have to be out of water. Although, for surfers; who are expecting high tides; means that is the appropriated moment for surfing, since they are expecting for high tides.

Cartagena has 17Km of beach, hot waters that offer the possibility to enjoy soft sand, sunshine and the blue sky.

Bocachica Beach

Bocachica is one of the quaintest villages and is near to Cartagena de Indias. Its name dues to the small channel of Bocachica; it must be the only passage to arrive towards bay of Cartagena de Indias.

Island of Barú

It is a conservation zone, is two hours from Cartagena, and has fine and white sand. It is a must see, surrounded by mangroves and coralline reefs, the perfect place for diving and snorkeling.

It has beauty beaches surrounded by mangroves and multicolor corals. It is possible to arrive by land, crossing the Channel of Dam from Pasacaballos (Mamomal highway) or by ship crossing Cartagena bay.

Island of Tierrabomba

It is located in front of Bocagrande, has excellent hotel infrastructure and services.

Rosario Islands

It is a small archipelago like a paradise, rich in corals, located to the south of Cartagena bay. Their beach has clear and multicolor waters, appropriated for recreational diving. It also has good hotel infrastructure, restaurants, and an aquarium for nature lovers.

The national Park of is another attraction for visiting, is located 25Km to the southeast of Cartagena, has an archipelago with 27 islands of different sizes and has one of the most beautiful coralline collections of Latino America.
