Explora Park

Explora Park It is an interactive park located in Medellín. It has 22000 square meters of built area and more than 300 interactive experiences and an aquarium, where all the visitors will enjoy pleasant time learning, was built in the area of the Botanic Garden. It is has revolutionized the science and the knowledge in the city.

Aquarium of Explora Park

The biggest aquarium of South America is inside Explora Park, in Medellín city, it has capacity of 580.000 liters of water, making it one of the biggest ones of South America.

The artificial scenario was built in three years by the secretariat of Public Works whose sponsor are: the Public Companies of Medellín (EPM) and the consultancy of aquariums from Mexico and Spain.

The aquarium has 14 freshwater fish tanks, nine of seawater and an enormous ponds, “La Selva Inundada”, which is 4, 67 meters long, 7,67 meters high and 16,5 centimeters thick, and weighs 8 tons approximately.

There, about 4000 organisms and 400 species live inside, it is possible to see marine animals as the Pirarucú, an Amazon fish that is four meters long and weights 300 kilos; the Arawana, that can jump to four meters outside of the water for catching insects and corals, unique visible living beings from the space.
It will be considered a must see for tourism and environmental education.

Visiting the aquarium

The first thing to do is going down almost 10 meters under the normal level of Explora Park. There, it is possible to have the first feeling of this trip by the water: twelve freshwater fish tanks with Amazon and endangered species from rivers as Magdalena and Medellín. Its main attraction is the “Selva Inundada”, a gigantic fishtank that represents the Amazon jungle.

In the second level, where it is possible to get through a elevator contiguous the “Selva Inundada”, for appreciating a magic spectacle, has 2 freshwater fish tanks and 9 seawater fish tanks, one of ray fish and other of electric fish. The most attractive are the beautiful and fearsome jellyfishes.

It is such a fantastic place that you don’t have to lose the opportunity to visit it, if you want to feel as you were into the seawaters of our country.
