La Macarena

The Macarena, is consider the most bohemian neighborhood of Bogotá, compared with the Soho in new York and Palermo in Buenos Aires, it is growing as the favorite place for artists, actors and people from all over the world, this quiet place was declared National Patrimony.
The Macarena is located besides Izquierdo woods where La Candelaria aristocracy settled in the 30’s.

Limits

The Macarena neighborhood is located between Carrreras 3 and 5 and the streets 26 and 30.
This area is surrounded by “Torres del Parque”, SantaMaria Bullring, and Monserrate mountain.
This exclusive area of Bogotá is surrounded of embassies, editorial headquarters, architect offices and art galleries.
The Macarena house an important international and varied gastronomy, it is an area full of bars, restaurants and coffee shops were the universities student’s gathers to enjoy a pleasant time after university study hours.
The Macarena streets have the color captured in its walls and the taste of each habitant of the area therefore it is possible to watch and appreciate the styles variety.

What to visit in La Macarena

- Santamaría Bullring: in this square each year takes place the “fiesta brava” with the assistance of the most important bullfighters of the world during the first months of the year.

- Observatory ( Planetarium): Situated in Bogotá International center heart, the observatory  is placed in a spot surrounded by trees and Independencia Park monuments, is considered one of the most beautiful buildings of the city, and gathering point of the science, art and culture.

- Independencia Park: Located between the Carreras 5 and 7 and between the 26 Avenue and “Torres del Parque”, the Independencia Park is a craggy space full of paths and staircases it also has a shrine that soon will be restored.

- Torres del parque: are the work of Rogelio Salmona Architect are three apartments towers built in winkle shape, built to harmonize the area.

- Alonso Garcés Gallery: is an art gallery located in La Macarena inaugurated in 1977 in an abandoned church.

- Luvina Bookstore: Interesting two floor bookstore where is possible to find wide range of different genre books accompanied by a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

- Zona Retro Furniture shop: opened in September by Mónica Negret, to help the local bohemians to decor its shared apartments.

Restaurants

- Tapas Macarena: Delicious and varied Tapas to take or enjoy at the restaurant, one of the best Bogotá deliveries, there’s also live music varied flamenco, bossa nova and acoustic rock carefully chosen.

- Beograd: Serbian restaurant with delicious proposals.

- En Obra: fusion restaurant to enjoy drinks in its minimalist bar.

- Don Ostia: located in Street 29 Bis 5 specialized in Spanish, Mediterranean food.
