Ibero-American Theater Festival

The festival is carried out in March from 7 to 23, is one of the biggest festivals of scenic arts where the most important companies of the world participate. It has a great amount of plays and has duration of 17 days. It shows and celebrates all genres of the performing arts like theater, dance, circus, music, puppetry, pantomime, multimedia and performance art. More than two million of spectators assist every two years.

This biannual celebration of life is Colombia’s most important cultural event. It presents artists from the five continents and has a profound social impact that transforms and enriches the life of the country’s citizens.

The theatre captivates huge popular audiences with shows that have enormous social, visual and poetic impact representing many diverse trends.

History

The theater festival was founded in 1988 by Fanny Mikey and Ramiro Osorio, and launched as part of the 450th Bogotá’s anniversary, whose slogan was “An Act of Faith in Colombia”.

Its 18-year history has been committed to presenting diverse work and to promoting plurality, tolerance and the harmonious interaction of all nations. Its first version was in April 1988.

Nowadays, all Bogotá is decked out for the celebration, squares, parks, coliseums, suburbs, shopping centers, and so on. Over 2.400 artists participate with 700 performances where more than two millions of spectators are gathered.

Participants

There are a lot of participants; it shows artists and their audiences. The Cabaret Big Top offers a fantastic program with rumba and the best cabaret shows every night.

Children also participate in the festival; there are exclusive theaters for families in the program.
