BARRANQUIJAZZ

In September arrives to Barranquilla, Colombia, the jazz sounds with the style of the most famous artists of: La Habana, Nueva York, Los Ángeles, San Juan; The Barranquijazz is a  festival with 13 years of shows experience, considered the most important Jazz festival in Colombia and The Caribe.
Among the Colombian cities that organize related events with this music genre, Barranquilla stands out thanks to its famous Barranquijazz that takes place in wide Colombia Caribbean environment.
 
After the colorful Barranquilla Carnival, characterized by the costumes, masks and the music instruments, Barranquijazz is considered the second most important music festivity in the Colombian Caribe.

Barranquijazz History

In 1997, after an intense cultural marketing work and formation of the Barranquilla audience a group of music lovers and jazz music fans: Samuel Minski, Antonio Caballero, Miguel Iriarte and Juan Carlos Buggy, decided to create an international jazz festival in Barranquilla. The same year took place the first Barranquijazz Festival.

Since 1997 year after year, the Festival is full of anxious jazz fans that waits for September to full the sceneries involved with this interesting music event.

Barranquijazz is organized by “Nueva Música” Cultural Foundation and takes place mostly at Amira de la Rosa Theater.

The “Nueva Música” Cultural Foundation, organize along the year to reinforce the September event several jazz live performances, video concerts, conferences, radio shows, television segments , contests with local bands all related with jazz music..

Barranquijazz sceneries

The activities of the festival take place in different sceneries in Barranquilla city:

- Amira de la Rosa Theater: one of the most beautiful sceneries of Barranquilla, the central concerts of the festival takes place here. The theater has 900 people capacity.
- Amira de la Rosa Theater Square: Barranquijazz to the street, free event takes place here, the public enjoy of the festival artist music. It has 2000 people capacity
- De la Paz Square: Open air scenery with 6000 people capacity. The closure of the Barranquijazz takes place here.

Other sceneries:

- Del Norte University, Buena Vista commercial center, Romelio Martínez stadium, Country Club Jumbo Saloon and in occasions other municipalities of Atlántico Department.

The easiest way to get to Barranquilla is by air, but is more exiting to make the trip by Magdalena River or by sea.
