OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Cartagena de Indias is a peaceful place, many people arrive for resting or visiting the natural attractions and appreciating the fauna and the flora. The most known places are the botanic garden and San Martin aquarium.

Guillermo Piñeres Botanic Garden

It is a relaxing place where people can enjoy the beautiful park, has natural representations of deserts, rainforest and tropical forests, it has warm climate because is located on Turbaco mountains.

The botanic garden was created in order to preserve the fauna and the flora of Caribbean region. It has paths, 2000 meters of native forest.

It is located in Turbaco municipality, 30 minutes away from the town. The herbarium has more than 12600 specimens, duly ordered and preserved.

Opening days:
Tuesday to Sunday and holidays from 9:00 to 18:00hrs

Adults: $3200
Children: $1100
Students group: $700 (with previous reservation)

San Martín Aquarium

It is one of the most beautiful aquarium of Caribbean region, is located in San Martin Island, there are many animals worthy of admiration. The trained dolphins impress to the visitors, there are also groupers, rays, sharks and a lot of fish.

The main purpose is the environmental preservation, through researches of marine coastal resources.

Opening days:

High season
Every day from 10:00 to 14:00hrs
Low season
Tuesday from Sunday from 10:00 to14:00hrs

Parks

Centenario Park

It is a zone full of trees, where there is a small public library, a sports field and skating rice. It is estimated that a small village Caribe was located, and burned in 1552.

Park of Bolivar

It was initially named as”Plaza de la Catedral”, then “Plaza de la Inquisición”. The 11 of November 11, the Liberator’s Statue and the Town Hall were inaugurated, according respective agreement, changing its name to “Plaza de Bolivar”. On February 2, 1641, the “Auto de Fé” was carried out, ordered by Juan Mañozca and Pedro Mateo de Salcedo.
