Cali city - Valle del Cauca

Distance from Bogotá: 440 Km.

Cali is one of the most important economical centers of the country.  Its weather is tropical and wet.

This is the capital of the salsa.  In effect, Cali is a city plenty of artists of every style.  The city counts with several places to dance and to listen to music, appart from popular discos which are called Juanchito situated in a small village.

The city is also the main sugar producer.  The city is a contrast of modernity and colonial tradition.
It is possible to find carbon and precious metals in Cali.

The airport of Cali is Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (Telephone number: (09)2 442 2624) that is placed in the region of Palmaseca, 18 Km. from the city.  This is the main access to the city.

Cultural events in Cali

The Fair of Cali begins with a riding where the most beautiful and fine horses go through the streets.  There is a huge quantity of popular parties that are organised in many sectors of the city.  There are many activities like parades, sports and some others.

Bull careers are organised in the square of The Cañaveralejo with the best Spanish bull-fighters.

Historical locations

There are many historical attractions in the centre of the city: The Church of la Ermita, a main religious center that is situated close to The Cali River.  The Chapel of San  Antonio, a colonial treasure with a barroque style that is located in the top of  The Cali Viejo Hill.

Other historical places are: The Museum of Gold, The Archaelogical Museum of la Merced, The Museum of Colonial Art, The Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia and The Museum of The Caña de Azúcar.

Zoológico de Cali (Zoo)

The zoo of Cali is a beautiful natural environment.  It offers a unique expirience in terms of contact with nature and, also, culture.  Its objective is to promote educational programs with the aim of communicating and researching the Colombian biodiversity.
It contains a great variety of locations to learn about animals and plants.  It also presents some game zones.  The six specific locations are organised according to a thematic: primates, acuarium, reptiles and anfibious, insects (butterflies), and birds.  Every place offers a résumé of the characteristics of these species.

Cerro de las Tres Cruces (Hill)

Its name comes from a monument that is placed on its top, the monument of the Tres Cruces.  This is a perfect place for walking.  During the Holy Week, many people arrive to this place to observe the monument as an action of faith.
