Providencia - San Andrés y Providencia

Providencia is an island in the Caribbean Sea that belongs to the archipelago of San Andres and Providencia.

It is located to the north of San Andrés, is appropriated for taking a rest because its location, its wonderful solitary beaches are appropriated for swimming, diving, skiing, and other water sports. It has fertile lands, rich in agriculture, especially in tropical fruits, and lobster fishing. Santa Catalina is united to Providencia through Los Enamorados Bridge, they share 22square kilometers of a real paradise.

Its lands are not uniform but irregular and very fertile. The sea surrounding the islands has a platform with spectacular coralline formations; the reefs are a kind of oasis among the sea, gathering 15% of the surface of the planet’s reefs and 50% of marine species. Its climate is tropical, nice and dry.

The fauna consists on small lizards and birds, the islands are obligated route of 56 species of migratory birds. The most outstanding ones are the black crab, very used by the local gastronomy.

Natural Attractions

South-west Beach

It is an exotic beach located in Providencia Bay. Place where the horse races and the excellent gastronomy are the most outstanding, there are hotels and cabins for the tourists too.

Puente de Los Enamorados (bridge)

It is the union of Providencia and Santa Catalina. It is a wooded hill with fruit trees surrounded by small beaches and mysterious caves.

El Pico

It is the highest summit of the island, one of the most beautiful places. It is possible to get through paths where spring streams and natural springs.

Natural Park of Providencia

It is located to the northeast of the island; covers 995 hectares, 905 of them are sea, protected coralline reef, mangrove zone, the Mc Bean lagoon and the islet of “Los Tres Hermanos” and “Cangrejo”. It has the whole necessary to be a real magnet for the tourism, with an almost virgin nature.
