Pereira city - Risaralda

Distance from Bogotá: 294 Km.

This is the capital of Risaralda.  It is called “the nocturnal city” thanks to the quantity of bars and discos like “Heaven Club” that this district contains.

The weather is normally hot but cold in the zone of the snow-covered hills.  The temperature is 21°C.  The main attractions are the beautiful landscapes and ecological locations such as:

Santuario de Fauna y Flora Otún Quimbaya (Sanctuary of Flora and Fauna)

It is composed by land extentions of Andean forests that are located in the central rage of montains.  It contains a variety of local animal species like monkeys, bears, eagles, bambies and coloured birds of every high.  The trees are amazing, they are enormous (10 m. high).
The sanctuary has a fascinating wet weather.  There are two famous rivers: Otún and Barbo.

Laguna del Otún

It is located between the zones of Pereira and Santa Rosa de Cabal, inside The Natural Park of Los Nevados.  It is an excellent place for activities like camping or walking.

Reserva Ucumari (Reservation)

This reservation is composed by Andean forests, a variety of flora and fauna, exotic cascades and wonderful landscapes.

Termales de Santa Rosa de Cabal (Thermal Waters)

It is located 8 Km. from Santa Rosa.  A nice place, very popular thanks to its medicinal thermal waters.  It counts with ecological paths and healthy mud pools.  The tourist infrastructure is very well designed.

Zoológico Matecaña

The zoo is situated in front of The Matacaña Airport.  This is the favourite tourist attraction because of its beautiful locations and its ecological diversity.  It has more than 870 animal species from Asia, Africa and Colombia.  It is a natural habitat for many species like the Asian elephant and the hipopotamus.  It is possible to access to a train excursion.
