Pasto a city placed to the south of the country, in the Valley of Atriz, Colombia - It characterized for the carnival negros y blancos, a cultural patrimony - Includes information of hotels and sites attractions.
 

Pasto city - Nariño

Distance from Bogotá: 798 Km.

This is the capital of the district.  It is placed to the south of the country, in the Valley of Atriz.  It is enclosed by the Andean rage of mountains.  It is an important tourist center.
It is possible to arrive to Pasto by plane or by car.  By plane, from every city to the airport of Pasto.  By car, from Bogotá to Nariño.

Laguna de Cocha

This is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains.  This is the second biggest lake of the country.  It is located 20 Km. from Pasto.  It is a natural stream that comes from a glaciaer.  It is, also, the second biggest lake of South America; it is 90m. deep and it has an extention of 5.589 hectares.
This lake is also called Guamúez.  The population of the Quillasingas live there.  They are dedicated to agriculture and fishing.  The restaurants offer different fish combinations.

Carnaval de Negros y Blancos

This carnival was declared cultural patrimony on April 2002.  It takes place from the fourth to the sixth of January.  El Carnaval de Negros y Blancos is a popular festivity for national and international tourists.  This is an spectacular event that has some phases:

  •   Pre-carnival: the 28 of December many people plays with water.
  • El carnavalito (little carnival): the third of January children make a parade with carriages.
  • The arrival of the Castañeda Family: the fourth of January this family is commemorated.  There are disguises of the family members like the extravagant grandmother, the daugther, the children, etc.
  • The day of the black ones: the fifth of January the African slaves are commemorated with disguises and paintings.
  • The day of the black ones: the sixth of January there is a parade to commemorate white people with disguises and paintings.
