Cundinamarca is located in the central part of the country.  The district presents high and low mountainous regions.

Bogotá

This is the capital of the district and the country.  It is the see of the country.  Bogotá is the educative, cultural, administrative and political center.  It has a great variety of tourist locations.

Bogotá is the centre of the cultural activities and many festivals and important events such as The Iberoamerican Theater Festival, The Film Festival and The Carnival of Bogotá a popular festivity plenty of color and happiness.

Principal cities

Guatavita

 This is an ancient population.  It is very popular thanks to its architecture, restaurants and a beautiful lake which is placed in the highest part of a mountain.  The place is enclosed by vegetation.  Many indigenous rituals were practiced there, such rituals gave birth to the leyend of El Dorado.

Other main attraction is The Guatavita, a rounded lake placed in a crater of an asteroid.  It used to be a sacred lake for The Muiscas.

Girardot

It is called “The city of the Acacias” because of the beautiful trees that contains.  It is a very important tourist center thanks to the weather, the geographical position, its port, natural attractions and the tourist infrastructure.

Many sport activities can be practiced in the zone: climbing, ecological walkings and nautic sports in different places like The Magdalena River, The Island of The Sun, The Caverns, The Vacational Centre El Peñón, Los Miradores and El Arbolito.  

The most popular tourist locations of the city are:

-The Magdalena River: the most popular natural and historical attraction.  It is possible to practice there fishing and navigation.

- The Island of The Sun: a group of rocky islands in the middle of an exotic landscape ideal for relaxation.

- El Peñón: one of the most espectacular modern residenses of Colombia is built there.

Tourist attractions

Parque arqueológico Piedras de Tunja (Archaelogical Park)

An archaelogical location covered by huge stones.  The stones have ancient paintings and indigenous inscriptions.

Parque Natural Chingaza (Natural Park)

The weather is tropical and wet.  The topography is very diverse.  It comprehends a variety of animals, beautiful woodlands, more than 63 lakes like Chingaza and Siecha.  It is also possible to visit other interesting locations: The Lake of Chingaza,  The Lakes of Siecha,  The Pond of Chuza,  etc.

Parque Nacional Sumapaz (National Park)

It is an area for the protection of species in danger of extinction.  It preserves beautiful mountainous landscapes and a variety of flora and fauna (bambies, soche, white bambi, danta de páramo, tigrillo, águila real (Tagle), cóndor and conejos de páramo (rabbits).  The park has an environment of serenity and a natural fragance.

Salto de Tequendama

A spectacular waterfall that is placed in the rout that conects Bogotá and San Antonio.  It is in the middle of a beautiful and calm landscape.  The waterfall is an electric generator because of the strenght of its waters.

El Embalse de Neusa

A park covered by a pine forest.  It is a perfect place for those that love nature and sports like fishing, camping and another nautic activities.
