Nemocón is a municipality of Cundinamarca, is located in the Central Savanna. Its name means “moan or roar of warrior”.
It borders on the north with Tausa municipality, on the east with Suesca municipality, on south with Gachancipá and Zipaquirá, on the west on Cogua municipality, and Neusa and Checua rivers.
Nemocón municipality has pre-Columbian origin. During the America Conquest, Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada was exploring the hollow and the seat of Rio Grande of La Magdalena, in compliance of the entrust mission by Pedro Fernandez de Lugo, governor of Santa Marta.
Tourism
Among the attractions are: Oviedo Museum, Salt Museum, Subterranean Church and San Francisco de Asís Church, Casa Blanca and Casa Bonita Ranches.
It is the natural richness of the salt mines, principle and fundamental of the population formation, obligatory sustenance, commercial, industrial and tourist attraction, legend and example of our ancestors.
Salt Cathedral
It is heritage of faith, hop that has to be conserved. In the inferior part, the culture emblem is placed.
Virgin of Carmen’s Hill
It is the municipal seat where El Carmen Virgin is placed, Saint of the drivers and miners. From there, it is possible to appreciate Nemocón municipality, and you can get by paved road.
Municipal Palace
It is located on the main square, work of Pietro Cantina architect, its construction began in 1915 and end in 1922. It is decorated by an elegant atrium of carved stones, which belong to 1932 epoch.
Luis Antonio Orjuela Culture House
It was built in 1994, has impressive façade of colonial style, the cultural richness of the municipality is found there; it comprises the public library, dance, fine arts and theater studios.
Diego Fallón Natural Fountain
It was named in this way in homage to Diego Fallón poet, who wrote a poem in his mane “A la Fuente de Nemocón”, place of water supplying; its subterranean waters have healing effects.
National Temple
San Francisco de Asís church, finished in 1889, is placed in the main square.
Salt furnaces
Long ago, this was the place where the salt was solidified in clay porridges. Nowadays, the salt is manufactured in cauldrons, provides restaurant and tourism services.
Municipal Pool
It is a recreational complex, offers restaurant and events service.
Main Park and Historical Center
It is beautiful paved place for inhabitants and tourist resting.
Parque de las Siete Leyendas (park)
It is a recreational place, it is located in the municipality seat, there is beauty rubber tree which has more than one hundred years, has a didactic area, multiple court, and public bathrooms.
Natural reserves
La Tatacoita desert
It is located in the rural zone, 6 Km. from Memocón, in the Checcua vereda, on the road to Tierra Negra, the perfect place for ecotourism.
Cultural Events
- Dances Festival in September. It is a regional yearly contest, Cundinamarca gathers in Nemocon, showing its folklore, happiness, recreation and color to its inhabitants and visitors, about 50 groups participate in this event.
- Del Carmen Virgin Festivity; takes place on July, is celebrated with a lot of devotion by the drivers and carriers of the region in the region of Carmelo mountain.
