Nuquí is located in the Gulf of Tribugá, Colombian Pacific, in Chocó department, has beautiful and large beaches surrounded by the tropical rainforest. It has wonderful landscapes of exuberant rainforest, beaches, multicolor stones, plants, animals in one of the richest ecosystems of the world.
It is a paradise for ornithologists, divers, fishers, hikers, artists, poets, and people who love nature. Nuquí has a rich fishing resource in the coast of Colombian Pacific. The coast is from 20 and 200 meters deep, there are local fishermen. More than 900 species of coastal fish has been registered in the zone.
The beaches have different ecosystems and coastal atmosphere. The marine waters of the Pacific Ocean -especially the north coast- are visited by species in danger of extinction.
The north coast represents an important place for migratory birds, since they are appropriated for their habitat. Among the mammals, over 33 species live in the zone. The humpback whale visits the zone every year.
Utría National Natural Park
It is located in the jurisdiction of Bahia Solano, Nuquí, Bojara and Alto Baudó municipalities.
The natural park is situated in the coast of Colombian Pacific in Chocó department. It borders Bahia Solano to the north, Alto Baudó to the east, Nuquí to the south and The Pacific Ocean to the west.
In the zone, there are a lot of trees species as abarco, aceita miaria, aserrín and palm trees as milpesos and naidí. They are approximately 35.000 species of plants.
When to visit
You can visit Nuquí any season of the year, because it is a natural paradise. In February and March, it is possible to appreciate how the crabs reproduce, in April and May there are a lot of tune, from July to November the whales arrive in order to mate, and for December you will recharge energies for beginning a new year.

Diving
If you want to know a marine Eden, you should dive into these zone’s waters where you will find beautiful corals, turtles, shoal of fish and hundred of marine species.
Whale watching
The whale watching is one of the reasons why the visitors arrive massively at Nuquí. This happens once a year, from July to November, when it is winter in the South Pole. The humpback whale migrates to warm waters of the Pacific for mating and giving birth to their whale calves. During this period, the whales don’t eat, since they have eaten the rest of the year accumulating thick layer of fat in their bodies that protect them.
Fishing
This region has more marine richness than others; that’s the reason why it is the perfect place to recreational fishing, where incredible species live in: the sailfish, the blue marlin, reeve’s croaker, tunes, sawfish, and so on. The best season to fish is May and June.
