Valledupar city - César

This is the capital city of the district. It is located in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta whose peaks can be observed from the city.
It is the world capital of Vallenato a musical gender that was born here. The Festival of The Leyend of The Vallenato takes place.
It is possible to arrive to Valledupar by plane to the airport Alfonso López.
Tourist attractions
This city has many places to visit: The Hurtado Balneary, which is located outside of the city over The Guatapurí River; The Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, The Church of Conception; The Lineal Park; and The Vallenato, a nice village close to The Guatapurí River plenty of picturesque landscapes.
The Obelisk
It is a cement structure, 30 meters high, located in Valledupar entering on Barraquilla and Fundación roads. It was built as “homage to life” in 1994.
Upar Boss
It is located in the roundabout in front of “Terminal de Transporte”, the statue of Great Upar Boss, is a work of Jorge Maestre, vallenato sculptor who has chosen glassfiber to build it.
Sculpture of Hernando Santana
It is a sculpture designed with scrap iron, in homage to Don Hernando de Santana, who founded in 1550 Ciudad de los Santos Reyes of Valley of Upar Boss of Guatapurí River.
The sculpture represents a conquer wearing a characteristic attire, is located on Salguero avenue and was built in 2000 as a present for its 450 years of fundation.
Homage to Vallenato Folclor
The sculpture represents the vallenato, has three Vallenata music players: the first one playing accordion, the second soundbox and the last one guáchara.
It is located on diagonal 23, Simón Bolívar, was built in order to homage to minstrels, one of the biggest values of our region whose songs have been contributed to our culture.
Sculpture of Fighting Coks
It is a homage to persons who breeds fighting coks, in the world; Pignalosa sculpted it using bronze, iron and aluminium. It is located on intersection of Simón Bolívar with transverse section 16C.
La Maria Mulata
It is a present of Enrique Grau to the city, one of the biggest coast values of universal culture. La Maria Mulata is a small harmeless bird, known as “cocinera” in our region.
Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata
It is a very popular event in Valledupar, a big cultural party that is carried out on April. Four specific types of rythms are included in the festival: Merengue, Paseo, Cuya and Son. The box, the little accordion and the guáchara are the common instruments to play those different rythms.
La Parranda is a typical ritual of friendship that takes place for two days. Many musical groups perform in this event.
