Distance from Valledupar: 301 Km.

Aguachica is located to the south of Cesar department, between the oriental mountain range and the Valley of Magdalena River, 301 kilometers away from Valledupar, the capital. It was officially founded on August 16, 1748 by José Lázaro de Rivera.

It borders to the north with La Gloria municipality and El Carmen (North of Santander), to the east with Rio de Oro municipality (César), to the west with Gamarra and Morales Bolivar municipalities

It is the second city after Valledupar; its strategic location has turned into the convergence point for commercialization.

The Aguachica´s economy depends on the agricultural sector, the agro industry and the commerce, that let a wide range of support services came up, as well as the aerotecnicos, the financiers, the transportation and other business and personal services.

How to get

In Aguachica, Hacaritama airport receives charter flights from different parts of the country, but it is not very used.

By land, it is possible to get there from Colombian Caribean Coast through Santa Marta- Aguachica road that unites the Magdalena and César departments. From the south of the country, it is possible to get through the road Bogotá-Bucaramanga- Aguachica that links Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander and César.
The terminal of Aguachica has 26 transport companies that travel to different destinations.

Tourist attractions

The municipality has several natural places such as: El Ágil and Potosí forest, Norean gully, the swampy complex of Lebrija and Magdalena rivers, Aguas Claras resort and La Cruz hill.

El Ágil Forest

It is a green zone with a lot of biodiversity, placed on the north outskirts of the city; has more than 70 kind of native trees of the region. There are numerous sources of natural waters from El Pital and is used for supplying to the municipality inhabitants.

El Potosí Forest

The Potosí is other forest placed in the urban zone, it covers one hectare approximately. The water sources come from El Cristo River that passes through the city.
