Arauca city
Arauca city, capital of Arauca department; is located in the Orinoquía region. It characterizes by having plain terrain; is much known because of its great economic growth, generated by Oil Company, and by being a river port. Among economic activities are agriculture, fishing and forest exploitation.
The weather in Arauca has two predominant seasons: dry season in summer from December to April; and raining season from May to December.
Arauca culture
The culture is rich in traditions and customs. They are reflected in objects like cabestros, parijuelas, jamugas, farming implements, ropes, etc; all of them are made by hand, with typical objects. Many objects for kitchen like zarando, strainer, brown busaca, fire pits, coroto, totumo´s spoon, wooden spoon and pilón are very common.
Other typical characteristic of Arauca culture is the music that talks about the llano, its costumes, landscapes, rivers, beliefs, women and love. The Joropo is an autochthonous music of Arauca people; there are three sorts of joropo dance, music and poetry. The musical instruments used for playing it, are maracas, harp, and other typical instruments.
