Necoclí is a municipality of Colombia in the sub region of Urabá in Antioquía department.
It is said that its name comes from a legend that tell us about a traveler who arrived tired looking for something to drink, but the people said to him that there wasn’t “Ni ´coclí” (the coclí was a common drink of the region).
It is one of the municipalities that have conserved its ecosystem in the north of Urabá. The surrounding mangroves are refuge of hundred of migratory birds as tijeretas, seagulls, pelicans.
Necoclí es divided into 7 villages: El Totumo, El Melito, Las Chaguas, Zpata, Mulatos y Caricia.
How to get
The municipality has an airport located 5 minutes away from the downtown; Ada airline has flights from Medellín-Necoclí and vice versa, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
By land, it is possible to get through San Juan- Necoclí, Necoclí – Turbo route (partly paved roads)
Tourist attractions
The song of the waves when collide with the beach shores, the wind that sway the palm trees, the peaceful and the enormous natural richness are some of the tourist attractions of the region.
The most known indigenous shelters are: El Caimán 22kilometers away from the seat road to Turbo municipality.
The places to visit are: The swamp of El Salado and Marimonda; El Totumo, El Pescador, and Linda beaches; Fourteen mud volcanoes, among them the most known is which is located in Virgen de la Cobrea Ranch, 2 Km from the sea; San Sebastian hills and Carlos waterfall 8 Km from the sea.
Caribana
It is a Necoclí destination, the first village in continental land. It is located to less than one hour and a half by jeep, to the north of the municipality. Punta Caribana is a paradise that begins where the mountainous region of Aguila finish.
Unlike the clam waters of urban Necoclí beaches, in this zone, the beaches are in front of open sea, big green and blue waves contrast with the exuberant vegetation.
