Distance from Bogotá: 409 Km.

Medellín is the capital of the district, the second city of the country, the city of the eternal spring.  An industrial and commercial center.

It is a place where culture is present in every traditional aspect like the famous parade of Silleteros, an event that calls the attention of many people beacause of its maverlous floral structures, specially designed for this parade that takes place in the season of flowers.

The nocturnal life is very active.  The nights are fresh, there are a lot of restaurants, discos, entertainment centers, and the residents are very kind.  The music of public places is a combination of Rock, Salsa, Vallenato, Cross Over and Bolero; appart from traditional music played by chords.

How is it possible to arrive to Medellín ?

To arrive to Medellín it is necessary to arrive first to The International Airport José Maria Córdova that is located close to the Black River, 45 Km. from the city.  (Telephone number: +57 (09)4 601212).  Avianca is the national airline.  The major part of its flights arrive to Bogotá and, then, they go to Medellín.  In the case of local flights, the airport Enrique Olaya Herrera is used.  Every day, local flights to other cities depart from this airport.

Tourist places of Medellín

Cerro Nutibara

This is a hill that is located in the centre of the city, very close to the Medellín River.  On its top, there is a particular place, Pueblito Paisa, from which it is possible to observe the entire city.  There are many restaurants around this place. 
Pueblito Paisa is a replica of an ancient village.  It was designed in 1977.  It has a school, a church, a pharmacy, bars, markets and a nice square with a fountain made of stone.  Its precise location lets tourists have a spectacular panoramic view of Medellín.  The theater Carlos Vieco for an audience of  3.800 people is also placed here.

El Volador

Another hill that is situated to the north of the city.  It is an ecological area of preservation where it is possible to find  important ecological pieces and indigenous ruins in the valley of Aburrá.  This is a place constantly visited by people who practice different sports.   

Parque Lleras

This park is in the centre of the city.  It contains a variety of restaurants of typical and international food.  Besides, there are dicos, bars and parkings.  A place where young and old people get together.

Zoológico Santa Fé (Zoo)

It contains a thounsand animal species.  Between them: lions, Bengala tigers, bears (oso de anteojos), rhinoceros, zebras, eagles (harpía), hippopotamus and chimpanzees.  The park is plenty of trees.

Jardín Botánico Joaquín Antonio Uribe (Botanic Garden)

This botanic garden has an important variety of flora.  It counts with many parts: an auditorium, a hall for expositions, a garden of the desert, a lake, an orchid room, a tree nursery and an ecological train.
The major attraction is the orchid room where the most beautiful orchids in the world can be observed.

Cultural events of Medellín

Colombiatex

The principal event of Medellín.  It is a trade fair of clothes, knitted fabric and textile industry in general.  There, it is possible to find a variety of articles of clothing made of cottom, wool, etc.

The fair of flowers

This is the most important fair of Medellín.  It is organised on August.  This is a major expression of hapiness and authenticity.  The program of the event presents art, culture and sports.
The biggest attraction is the parade of the Silleteros where the art of elaborating beautiful flower figures of different colors and forms is exposed.

Medellín navideño (Christmas)

On Christmas time, the city changes its aspect: it is plenty of ligths of every color, a variety of christmas figures, spectacular stores, etc.
